Bob The Builder Wiki

Travis Paints the Town is the ninth episode (second episode to premiere on the BBC) of the first series.

Plot

Bob, Muck and Roley head off to finish a new section of road, with Travis taking the line-marking machine for them. As they arrive, Roley starts to flatten the road's surface, and Muck helps Bob unload the line-marking machine. Spud secretly watches them from afar.

Later, Bob is called away by Mrs. Potts to fix up her fence, leaving Roley alone with the line-marking machine and giving Spud the opportunity to cause mischief. Spud discreetly hitches Travis to the line-marking machine in place of his trailer and tricks Travis into thinking that Farmer Pickles needs him by the pond. Travis unknowingly leaves uneven white lines on the road as he rushes off. Roley sees this and frantically tries to chase down the tractor, picking up Farmer Pickles along the way. Farmer Pickles calls Wendy about the trouble, and Wendy calls Bob.

Bob receives Wendy's call after fixing Mrs. Potts' fence and dashes off with Muck to stop Travis. Muck and Travis nearly collide by the pond, which causes the tractor to swerve and the line-marking machine to tumble onto its side, spilling a great deal of white paint on the ground. Spud is promptly found out by Farmer Pickles, with the scarecrow admitting he is to blame, and forced to clean up the white lines as punishment. When Bob, Muck and Roley return to the yard, they all try to talk about the trouble that happened, but it comes out all jumbled as Muck and Roley frantically talk over each other. Dizzy wishes she had been there to witness all the fun.

Later, Spud is still cleaning up the road, until he finally finishes in the night.

Goofs

  • When Bob gets on Muck, Bird disappears.
  • When Bob says, "Bye!" to Wendy, his mouth does not move.
  • When Spud creeps up to the line marking machine, Travis is missing.
  • In the shot where Travis first leaves to see Farmer Pickles, the edge of the sky background can be seen.
  • The scene of the air view of Travis approaching Muck is mirrored.
  • Right before Muck and Travis skid to avoid hitting each other, which leads to the line-marking machine falling onto it's side, as Travis comes into frame, for at least two frames, you can see that the line-marking machine is not attached to him before it quickly fades in because of the stop-motion process.
  • Oddly, Lofty and Pilchard were not seen at the yard. However, Lofty is seen very briefly in an aerial shot.
  • In the aerial shot, one of the roads leads to a tree.

UK/US Script Differences

  • Scene 1
    • UK: That's right, Travis, then we can put a white line down the middle to show that it's the main road.
    • US: That's right, Travis, then we can paint a nice line down the middle to finish everything off.
  • Scene 2
    • UK: Well, I'll tell you what, I'll pop over quickly now, it won't take me five minutes to fix that.
    • US: Well, I'll tell you what, I'll drop by quickly now, it won't take very long to fix that.

Quotes

  • Spud: Hmm, um, oh, me? Nothing!
