Will Bob's Dad ever find his way out of the maze? Does Bob discover what's behind the secret door? Can Bob and his team get the castle finished in time for the grand opening? Join Bob the Builder and his "Knights of Can-A-Lot" in their biggest adventure to date!
Plot
Bob is given the job to help Dr. Mountfitchet renovate an old castle but a mix-up leaves his father Robert in charge resulting in one disaster after another. Will the castle be finished and will Bob and his Dad get along?
Meanwhile, tales of Camelot inspire Bob's noble crew of machines - Sir Lift-a-Lot, Sir Roll-a-Lot, Sir/Lady Dump-a-Lot, Sir Dig-a-Lot and Lady Mix-a-Lot - in their quest to get the job done, while Sir Spud-A-Lot finds a suit of armour and a fiery steed almost perfect for jousting! Back at the castle, Bob's father is a bit of a royal pain when he locks himself and Bob in the dungeon, then finds himself mysteriously trapped in a maze! Can they be able to get out?

Trivia
- This special takes place between the Seventh and Eighth Series.
- The words "Ye Ende" appear, kind of like a medieval term meaning "The End".
- The coaches on the train are very similar in colour to the red express coaches in Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends, along with the train whistle that sounds similar to Lady from Thomas and the Magic Railroad, which is Sir Handel's whistle from the US version, as well as the early UK version of the fourth series episode Sleeping Beauty.
- The white bag seen next to the chair that Robert sat looks like Postman Pat's satchel that he used to deliver the post in Greendale from the two seasons and four specials.
- Bob asks Robert to stop calling him "Bobby" because it bothered him. But in Robert and Dorothy's later appearances, Robert continues to call his son "Bobby", and that doesn't bother him at all.
- This special marks the first of a few things:
- First appearance of The Librarian.
- First appearance of Dr. Florence Mountfitchet.
- First appearance of Bob's parents, Robert and Dorothy.
- First time children appear in the series.
- This is the first time Dr. Florence Mountfitchet cries on screen.
- Travis and Bird do not appear in this special.
- When the machines get their knight names, in the UK version where Muck is male, he gets called Sir Dump a-Lot, while in the US version where Muck is female, she gets called Lady Dump a-Lot.
- This is the first special when Bob's machine team dress up. The second one being Built to be Wild.
- This is also the second time Muck and Dizzy dress up for a special occasion. The first time they did so was the Series 2 episode Bob's White Christmas.
- This special also marks the only the occurrence of a few things:
- Only time Dizzy said Scoop's "Can we?" catchphrase.
- Roley also said it, but would say it later in Scrambler to the Rescue, Scrambler's Best Idea, and Roley's Rovers.
- Only time Bob's parents make an appearance in the Original Series.
- Only time where Skip appears in a special, albeit only as a cameo.
- Only time Dizzy said Scoop's "Can we?" catchphrase.
- This special features Bob, Spud, and Robert as the main characters.
- This is the first time Bob and Robert hugged each other.
- Outfits worn by everyone in the end:
- Bob the Builder - Prince
- Wendy - Princess
- The Machines - Knights
- Spud - Knight
- Robert - Crusader
- Dorothy - Queen
- Florence Mountfitchet - Queen
- Farmer Pickles - Medieval Man
- Mr. Bentley - Friar
- Mrs. Barbara Bentley - Queen
- Mrs. Percival - Queen
- Mrs. Potts - Medieval Woman
- Mr. Sabatini - Medieval Man
- Mr. Beasley - Juggler
- Assorted Bobsville People - Medieval Citizens
- This is the first special not to have a Japanese dub. Instead, Robert made his Japanese dub debut in the Bob the Builder: Project: Build It episode 'Where's Robert?'.
- As this was the first special released in the US, there was a continuity error for original US viewers of Scoop switching between his new and old mouth plates as A Christmas To Remember was produced first and still takes place before this special.
- The German DVD contains the episode Bob's Day Off.
- The US DVD has no menu.
- The working title for the US version was "Long Live King Bob", as stated in the US trailer.
- When she sees Mr. Sabatini selling pizzas at the medieval pageant, Dot is unsure as to whether or not they had pizzas in the medieval ages. The first pizza was made in 1889.
- When this special aired on CBeebies in the UK, the bylineless version of the 2001-2007 HiT Entertainment logo was used.
- When Spud sees a dog, he calls it a horse as he says, "No, not you, doggy. Horsey!".
