The first series of Bob the Builder aired between 1 September 2015 to 29 February 2016 in the UK on Milkshake!.

Production[]

Following Mattel's buyout of HiT Entertainment in 2012, the original series of Bob the Builder was put on hold after Series 18, and was later cancelled. This left the Bob the Builder franchise in a hiatus, with no content being put out for many years.

In 2013, Michael Carrington was hired as head of content at HiT Entertainment, and would behind the scenes go on to head the production of a new Bob the Builder series. [1] [2]

On April 4, 2014, it was announced that a new series of Bob the Builder had entered pre-production, and would be animated by Mainframe Studios. A teaser image showing the silhouette of Bob's new look was released along with the announcement. [3]

In October of that same year, more information was revealed about the new series. Proper teaser images of the series were revealed, showing the new redesigns of the characters, as well as some of the new characters like Leo. [4]

The new series was a total reboot and continuity reset for the series, and featured many differences, such as the main setting now being Spring City, characters having new designs and personalities, the addition of more characters, such as Leo, Tiny and Two-Tonne, and Roley and Dizzy being demoted to secondary characters.

Trivia[]

  • Some sources list this series as being a Series 19 of the original Bob the Builder series, however this is largely considered to be erroneous. The 2015 reboot is considered a separate series entirely from the original series from 1999, and exists on a different continuity.
