“Gripper and Grabber, having fun together!”
―Gripper and Grabber's catchphrase

Gripper and Grabber are twin tracked machines. Gripper is a crawler crane with a second winch at his front and Grabber is a crawler excavator with a dozer blade on his front as well as a clamshell bucket.

Biography

They used to live in the city and were once brought in to help out Bob, Wendy and the machines build a sports stadium at Bobland Bay. However, mishaps happen to the two machines when they separate, and even had an argument and a falling-out. The two refused to speak to each other, leading to them having their own fun. Later that night, they ended up racing and quarreling with each other, until Grabber almost fell off a high mountain, in which Gripper was able to save him with his hook, and the two were able to make up. They stayed there for the rest of the night and the morning, until Bob and the machines were able to rescue them. They were soon able to complete the sports stadium. They competed together with Scoop and Lofty in the machine relay race. After the sports stadium was complete, they returned to the city.

Later on, they came back from the city to live at Sunflower Valley. A new shelter was built for them along with Bristle, Flex and Tumbler to stay in.

In Ready, Steady, Build!, they work at the Supplies Yard.

Basis

Gripper and Grabber are either based on or resemble a CAT 314 D LCR.

Trivia

  • Their caterpillar tracks are based off Muck's.
  • Rob Rackstraw and Rupert Degas give both a Liverpudlian accent in the UK dub (Southern Drawl in US dub). They refer to others as "mates" in the UK dub ("partners" in the US dub) mainly due to stereotypical behaviours. In the Slovene dub, they speak in a Lower Styrian accent and refer to each other as "brate" ("brat" being the normal word for a brother).
  • Though they are a crane and excavator, Gripper is a rare example of a crawler crane with a telescopic boom, while Grabber has an atypical clamshell bucket.
  • They tend to act like Donald and Douglas from Thomas & Friends in Race to the Finish, as they argue after not having fun together and fall out. But in the end, Gripper saves Grabber from a high cliff in which they always get back together.
  • They are two of a few machines who had not been seen using a talkie-talkie.
  • In the US dub, Grabber's voice resembles Scoop's in the UK dub, except in an American English accent.
  • In the German version, Gripper is called “Hebi” and Grabber is called “Hubi”.
  • In the Slovene dub, Gripper is called "Boštjan", while Grapper is called "Sebastjan" a Slovene version of "Sebastian".
