Bob's Barnraising is the thirteenth and finale episode of the first series.
Plot
One sunny morning, Bob watches TV in his living room when the weather lady on TV says that heavy rain is forecast for the afternoon. Concerned, Bob goes out to the yard, where his machines are waiting for him. Once he greets them, Scoop asks Bob what they are doing that day, and Bob tells Scoop that he needs him and Lofty to repair Farmer Pickles' old barn. Then, Farmer Pickles calls Bob to say he needs assistance gathering and loading his harvest, so Bob assigns Muck to help.
Bob, Scoop, and Lofty head over to Farmer Pickles' barn while Muck goes to the countryside. When Bob arrives at the barn, he sees that it is in really bad shape and in danger of collapsing. Scoop asks if they can finish it by that night to which Bob responds, "We've got to, Scoop!", knowing that a storm is on its way. Meanwhile, in the open countryside, Muck arrives to help Farmer Pickles, who is loading hay bales into Travis's trailer. Farmer Pickles is relieved that they can get the harvest done in half the time.
Bob attempts to hammer a board back into the barn's beam. The board only stays in place for a few seconds and then falls to the ground, much to Bob's shock. He is also shocked to see that the old wooden beam is rotten all the way through. He tells Scoop and Lofty that they'll have to replace it since the weight of the hay bales will cause the barn's floor to collapse.
While Muck and Farmer Pickles are still busy gathering and loading the harvest, Spud the scarecrow sees them and decides to play a little prank. Farmer Pickles puts one bale on top of another and goes to get another one. Spud takes the top bale while no one is looking and hides in the bushes. Farmer Pickles returns with another bale and is surprised to see only one when he sure that he put two bales in the spot. He stacks two bales on top of each other and then goes to get another one. Once again, Spud takes the bale that Farmer Pickles just placed and hides in the bushes. Farmer Pickles comes back with another bale and sees that his stack was reduced to just one bale again. He suspects that something funny is going on and realizes that this one of Spud's tricks when he hears the scarecrow laughing behind the bushes. Spud emerges and jokes that he'd come to help with the harvest. Farmer Pickles suggests Spud actually help him load the hay bales instead of unloading them, but Spud pretends that he saw a lot of birds in the lettuce fields and says that he should go back to his real job of scaring birds. He even acts out scare birds but accidentally trips over one of the hay bales that he had hidden, much to Farmer Pickles' amusement.
Back at the barn, Scoop and Lofty help Bob remove the old beam. Scoop grabs the barn's floor and lifts it up slightly to hold it in place. Lofty grabs the old beam with his hook and after a few hard tugs, he pulls it out. Scoop is straining to hold barn's heavy floor and tells Bob to tell Lofty to get a move on with the new beam.
Travis soon arrives at the countryside to collect the hay bales, and he is hooked up once Muck and Farmer Pickles finish loading his trailer. By then, the sky turns dark gray and thunder rolls. Farmer Pickles nervously looks up at the sky and is concerned if they'll make it back to the barn before the storm comes. The dark clouds and thunder also loom above Bobsville. At Bob's yard, a flash of lightning frightens Pilchard, and Roley and Dizzy hide under one of the sheds.
The sky is still clear at Farmer Pickles' barn, but thunder continues to roll in the distance. Bob assists Lofty putting the new beam in place, and Scoop finally lets go of the heavy floor, feeling relieved and tired. Bob hammers and fixes the barns wall and eventually drills the last board in, fully repairing the barn. Bob stomps his foot on the barn's floor to check the sturdiness of the new beam, which he calls "as solid as a rock". Suddenly, lightning flashes and thunder rolls. Bob starts counting, but says elephant(s) after each number. After saying "eight elephant(s)", lightning flashes again which startles Bob. Scoop is confused and asks Bob why he's counting elephants. Bob explains that he's actually counting how many seconds there were between the lightning flashing and the thunder rolling. He also explains that the word "elephant" only takes one second to say, and that since he counted eight seconds, the storm was only eight miles away.
Farmer Pickles, Muck, and Travis hurry on their way to the barn with the harvest. Bob is still waiting for them at the barn and counts elephants in between the thunder and lightning again. This time, there were only four seconds which means the storm is getting closer. Farmer Pickles, Muck, and Travis finally arrive and, everyone helps load the hay into the barn together. After the harvest is put in the barn, Bob, Scoop, Muck, and Lofty head back to Bobsville with the lightning flashing and thunder rolling. The machines pull into their sheds while Bob shelters himself in his house.
Soon, rain starts to fall and Spud quickly runs for cover in Farmer Pickles' newly repaired barn. He continues to sleep inside of it even after the storm has stopped.

Quotes
- Bob: One elephant, two elephant(s), three elephant(s), four elephant(s), five elephant(s), six elephant(s), seven elephant(s), eight elephant(s)... (lightning flashes) Whoa!
- Scoop: Uh, w-why are you counting elephants, Bob?
- Bob: (chuckles slightly) No, no. UK: I'm counting how many seconds there are between the thunder rolling and the lightning flashing. / US: I'm counting how many seconds there are between the lightning flashing and the thunder rolling. It takes one second to say "elephant". There were eight seconds, which means the storm's only eight miles away.
- Scoop: Oh... I understand!
- Bob: Well, the barn's ready, but where is Farmer Pickles and the harvest?
- Scoop: Probably stuck behind the elephants!
- Bob: No, Scoop...
